JG26 Flowing Water
JG26 Flowing Water
Tai Lu weavers are among the most accomplished in Thailand and Laos. This unusual 4 yard piece has four sections of lovely "nam laay" tapestry weaving called the flowing water motif. Its popularity as a motif recognizes the importance of rain and the continuing flow of the rivers for their livelihood. This piece is from a lovely small town, Nan, over the mountains from Chiang Mai about 6 hours by van. The skilled weaver must watch carefully to change colors at the right point maintaining the design and must also keep the tension in the warp and weft consistent to obtain such precision. Half of the piece is the blue solid area, altogether plenty for a dress or jacket.
