Phoutai villagers grow rows of rice next to each other in the fields so they needn't fertilize. With chickens, kitchen gardens and a harmonious lifestyle they live quite sustainably. The Mekong River provides both water for crops and fish for daily meals; meat is reserved for special occasions. This rice seed motif makes me think of the many ways we can support Mother Earth.
