Phutai weavers and dyers are uniquely skilled in tieing the intricate indigo ikat resist patterns of their "phasin" skirts. This elegant design evokes the power of the "naga" motif the serpent, the protector in the local beliefs. Scales of the naga criscross the surface of the cloth culminating in confluence of two crowned naga figures nested together. Such rich iconography presents the very culture and tradition of the Phu Tai peoples attained through generations of skill, knowledge and wisdom as artisans.
