LM509 Diamond Motif
Typically the fabric woven for a Phtai women's "phasin" or skirt has 3" borders along each selvage which protects the elaborate ikat resist areas from daily wear and tear. Sewing two ends of a piece around two yards long makes a cylinder. To wear the phasin, step into the cylinder and fold over a big pleat as needed to fit your size, then pull the four layers of fabric tightly around the waist . This top area is then turned under twice to hold the skirt and its pleat in place. This cotton ikat fabric known as "matmee" is worn everyday in the typical village into the rice fields that sustain them and is very strong. Additionally the indigo is a natural insect repellent protecting the wearer to your benefit as well.
