LAE44 Silk Ceremonial Shawl
LAE44 Silk Ceremonial Shawl
Bands of elaborate brocade supplementary weaving motifs are used in a yin yang way, first with many colors then only one color in a lively play of darks and lights. You find scales of the dragon, the naga protector, diamond shapes holding rainbow skies, flowers and hooks all ancient symbols deeply held in Lao mythology and heritage. The serpent or naga (Naak) is associated with benevolence and fertility. A weaver friend once said, "If you are weaving in Laos, you are weaving nagas", a symbol representing female energy and fertility.
